Executive Summary

Our consciousness is malleable – learn how you can experience new levels of perception through (lucid) dreaming, meditation, or psychedelics. While dreams help us process experiences or translate our superpowers into lived reality, meditation can bring about profound neural changes and dissolve the ego. Our beloved psychedelics often offer radical shifts in perspective and intense spiritual experiences. What is your tool of choice?

Have you ever wondered if you are really awake or just dreaming? A bit like in The Matrix? Our perception feels real, but it is only a tiny fraction of what actually exists. But what if you could train your consciousness to experience new levels of reality? Today, for precisely this reason, we will look at how dreams, meditation, and psychedelics can influence our consciousness in completely new ways and perhaps even free us.

Dreams – Conscious or unconscious?

Let's start directly with the question: Why do we dream? Scientists assume that dreams help process experiences, organize emotions, and solve problems – which sounds plausible and, if you occasionally remember your dreams, quite obvious. The most fascinating type of dreaming is lucid dreaming – a state in which you are aware that you are dreaming and can actively control your dream. Studies show that lucid dreamers exhibit increased activity in the prefrontal cortex, the area for logical thinking and self-awareness. So it sounds quite desirable to delve deeper into the topic.

But how can one train lucid dreaming? Since the topic could probably warrant its own article, here are just a few first steps:

  1. Multiple reality checks throughout the day – think of trying to push your finger through your hand or the spinning top from Inception.
  2. Keeping dream journals – or perhaps more practically: dream audio recordings, so you don't have to turn on the light at night.
  3. WBTB (Wake-back-to-Bed) method: sleep for five hours, wake up, stay awake for a short time, and fall back asleep – enormously increases the chance of lucidity!

Another tool to explore our consciousness, which you can truly use always: meditation.

Meditation – Your Consciousness Programmer

As you may know, your brainwaves can be brought into deeper states through meditation. From a relaxed focus (alpha waves) to access to deep intuition (theta waves). We personally find gamma waves particularly interesting, which have been proven to be increased in long-term meditators, such as Buddhist monks, through meditation. These are associated with increased neuroplasticity (the nervous system's ability to rewire itself) and feelings of happiness – both things we probably can't get enough of.

A very special meditation technique that has gained attention in recent years is Quantum Meditation according to Joe Dispenza. It aims to shed all identification to enter the so-called quantum field. Once there, we can overwrite outdated beliefs and replace them with new dogmas that resonate more with us.

Whether it led to profound transformation for us, you can find out in the YouTube video.

The third tool that should not be missing in the consciousness toolbox, who would have expected it in the Psychedelika Club, are the good old and new psychedelics.

Psychedelics – The Consciousness Sledgehammer

Due to their incredible potential, we affectionately call them the consciousness sledgehammer. But why do psychedelics change our consciousness so strongly? Substances like psilocybin, LSD, or DMT can paralyze our brain's Default Mode Network, leading to the formation of new neural connections. Many people report intense spiritual experiences, deep connectedness, or even ego dissolution – a state in which the sense of self completely disappears. The latter can be both a beautiful and a profoundly challenging experience of consciousness – more on that very soon.
