What is 4-PrO-MET?
4-PrO-MET is one of the 4-substituted tryptamines – a group of substances that became known primarily through psilocybin from so-called magic mushrooms.
Structurally related to established substances such as 4-AcO-DMT or 4-HO-MET, 4-PrO-MET is increasingly becoming the focus of modern research approaches dealing with altered perception models, consciousness processes, and sensory modulation.
Why is it not forbidden:
The Narcotics Act (BtMG) generally covers substances by explicitly listing them in Annexes I to III. The New Psychoactive Substances Act (NpSG) also uses substance group definitions that describe specific chemical structures and their permissible substitution patterns.
For the substance group of indol-3-alkylamines, various substituents are explicitly named at specific positions on the indole ring system, particularly positions 4 to 7, including hydroxy, alkoxy, methylenedioxy, and acetoxy groups.
A propionoxy substitution is not listed in the wording of the relevant substance group definition. Therefore, based on an interpretation aligned with the legal text, a classification different from acetoxy-substituted compounds results.
